Last year, I had the opportunity to travel to New York with fellow journalists to get a glimpse of director Darren Aronofsky’s vision for his film Noah, which hits theaters March 28. One evening, we made a visit to Long Island to see a replica of the ark and meet with Aronofsky. (We also had a brief interaction with Noah himself–played by Russell Crowe.) The director talked of how he had been fascinated by the story of Noah since his childhood and yearned to bring the story to life.
During our visit, we also had the opportunity to explore the ark itself, which was built by production designer Mark Friedberg to the biblically accurate measurements of 300 cubics long, by 75 cubics wide, by 45 cubics high. To say it was impressive is an understatement. In anticipation of the movie’s release, here is a look at how Aronofsky’s vision of the ark came to life. Enjoy!
