Need Help Praying?

As a customer service representative at Franciscan Media, I often get asked for products that might teach readers the best way to pray. People are looking for answers about how to pray, as well as why or when to pray.

I remember as a young girl asking my mom how to pray, and she told me to talk to God as if he were sitting right next to me. As I got older, I learned the traditional prayers, such as the “Our Father,” and to pray with a few Bible verses, such as Psalm 23. I found these prayers comfortable and comforting. Like everyone else, I want to embrace God in prayer and to know Him in a very personal, spiritual way.

I love to have tools that will help me pray when I just don’t know how or feel like I can’t. One tool is my Bible; marked up with yellow highlighter are my favorite verses that help me get started in my conversation with God.

Books on prayer are another great resource. This month Franciscan Media has released a new book titled Catholic Update Guide to Prayer. It is packed with traditional and everyday prayers, as well as different ways to pray. (Item #B36674; $5.99)

Servant Books also offers a lovely leatherette version of The Catholic Prayer Book. It is a perfect gift for those who have little time but need a resource for their personal prayer, as well as favorite family and liturgical prayers. (Item#T36611; $24.99)

Both of these books are small and perfect for your purse—but don’t let the size fool you. They are powerful tools to aid you in your prayer time.

Thanks Tammy. My SD has me “breath” praying: that is, [inhaling] I pray, “Lord Jesus Christ, son of God,[and exhaling] have mercy on me, a sinner.”.-not a new prayer, nor new to me. This is just until I get my own breath prayer.
I intend to order ‘The Catholic Prayer Book’ immediately. Catholics won’t mind if I borrow a prayer or two will they?
