Dealing with Bad Days

Dealing with Bad Days

What do you do when you’ve had a really bad day? It happens to all of us. Sometimes days just seem to go south. I had one of those days recently (I’ll spare you the details), and I began to reflect on how to deal with days like this, as opposed to merely giving in to discouragement and escalating the drama. Here are some strategies I came up with:

1. Make a list of what went wrong.
2. Make a list of what went right – what you have to be thankful for.
3. Take a moment to think of those who have it much worse than you! Think Moore, Oklahoma, for instance. Offer your day up for the sufferings of others.
4. Pray! Turn to Jesus, to Mary, who can offer true consolation and the peace that passes understanding.
5. Focus on the present moment.
6. Take time to read something inspirational – a Scripture passage or a chapter from a book (check out the new Servant Books titles for some great suggestions).
And remember, things always look brighter in the morning. What helps you when you’ve had a bad day (or week!)?
