During his talk, he mentioned praying to God about all the pain and hurt and suffering that goes on in the world—from natural disasters to the loss of a job. He prayed that God should “do something… do something for these people who are hurting.” The answer he received is not what he had expected. God said, “I did do something. I gave them you.”
I think about that at least once a week, if not once a day. I think about what I can do to alleviate someone’s pain—even if it is just in a small way. Invite someone for dinner who needs companionship. Offer a ride to work for someone who cannot drive herself. Smile at someone who seems to be having a bad day. All of these are small, relatively easy things to do…but they may make a big difference to the person for whom you do them.
God gave ME to help ease the pain of others. How can I live up to that challenge every day?
