In a few weeks, a team from Franciscan Media will be heading to sunny Anaheim for the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress. This will be my third time attending, and I’m once again excited about the possibilities. I love the theme for this year: “Enter the Mystery”; on LAREC’s website, it’s described this way by Sister Edith Prendergast:
“The theme Enter the Mystery bids us to look with new eyes and discover God’s creative presence woven into the fabric of our rich Faith story: our beliefs, our rituals, and our great spiritual traditions.”
I love a good mystery (book or film), and, of course, daily life can be quite the mystery, too! Reflecting on the mystery of our faith—the story behind the story—releases me from having to have all the answers or control every outcome. There’s serendipity in “entering the mystery,” and I sense that this convention will have lots of serendipitous moments.
Stay tuned—I’ll let you know how it turns out! (And if you happen to be attending the Congress, make sure to stop by the Franciscan Media booth and say hello.)
