Warning: shameless self-promotion ahead.
The other day I was putting dates in my calendar for upcoming school events when it suddenly occurred to me that Christmas is just two months away. Every year I tell myself I’m going to start early. I’m not going to be rushed and stressed out about the holiday season. I’m going to make time for all those crafts, cookies, and recipes I’ve pinned on Pinterest. And every year I end up stressed and rushed about the holiday season with no crafts, homemade presents, or cookies, and the same old recipes I bring to parties every year.
What is it about the Christmas season that gets us so riled up? It’s supposed to be a calm time, a time of waiting, a time of family. Instead, we do just the opposite and then wonder why we’re not getting anything out of the season.
It is with all of that in mind, that I said “yes” when asked to write A Catholic Family Advent. I am all too aware that if I don’t have it right in front of me, spelled out and easy, then odds are I’m not going to do it. I’m ashamed to say that, but it’s true.
So this book is for all of us harried families out there looking for a way to connect with the Advent season amidst the rush of daily life. Everything in the book has been road tested by my own family, and met the seal of approval from a 14-, 10-, and 6-year-old. I hope it helps your family remember the true meaning of this season. I know it will help mine.
