One of my favorite Catholic priests introduced me to the habit of choosing a “motto”—a meaningful phrase (especially something scriptural) to give a spiritual focus to our days during different seasons. I’m starting a new chapter of my life: earlier this month my husband and I moved to Florida (after five years in Connecticut, and our whole lives in the Midwest prior to that). So it seemed fitting to adopt a motto for this new season of my spiritual life. I chose “Jesus, I trust in you.” It’s been a constant and comforting refrain as I navigate through all the challenges of a major move.
Feeling anxious about the moving van showing up days after we expected… “Jesus, I trust in you.”
Wondering how long it will take for my husband to find new work… “Jesus, I trust in you.”
Traveling for work the day after the movers finally delivered all our stuff… “Jesus, I trust in you!”
Having a motto provides peace and focus—it reminds me of God’s continual care about all the details of my life and centers me.
Do you have a motto? If not, why not choose one for whatever season of life you find yourself in? Feel free to share it in the comments!
