The other day I witnessed a disturbing scene while driving toward a 4-way intersection. An oncoming, middle-aged driver had just driven through the intersection when a car to his right started to turn right into him, just barely avoiding a collision.
As I drove upon the scene, the older driver had stopped his car, blocking any traffic behind him from proceeding on and started furiously shouting out his passenger window to the offending young driver.
As I pulled up next to his stopped vehicle in the intersection, I watched this adult actually get out of his car and start screaming at the young man. I yelled out my window twice for the man to calm down. It was utterly unnecessary. No collision occurred. No one got hurt. No harm done. Man up. Get over it!
That incident reminded me of an occurrence that happened when I was about 8 months pregnant with my son, Scott. When the lane I was driving in merged with another, I apparently wasn’t traveling fast enough for the driver who was well behind me, racing toward me like a bullet. He got so angry with me that he felt he needed to teach me a lesson. He sped around me, got right in front of me, and then slammed his brakes on so hard causing us both to burn rubber while skidding to a halt. We proceeded to drive from that near collision, and then…he did it AGAIN!
Honestly, if people get so enraged while driving, they shouldn’t be driving at all. Road rage is unacceptable. It accomplishes nothing at best, and possible tragic results at worst.
We should all stop, think and show some self control before we let our anger manifest itself with possible dire consequences. That driver could have become a murderer that day and his car would have been his weapon.
I am eternally grateful to God for sparing the life of my unborn baby that day. Just this past week, my “baby” turned 22 years old!
