One of my least favorite things to do at Christmas is to put the lights on the tree. Of course, I was the lucky person who got to do it again this year.
We have a real tree this year, so the way I usually try to tuck the ugly cord into the branches doesn’t quite work the same way as with an artificial tree. After weaving the lights in and out of just about every branch of the tree, I was finally finished. I stepped back and looked at the tree. All I could see was the ugly cord connecting the lights. I thought I did a terrible job. Then, my husband turned on the lights. Suddenly, the ugly cord dropped out of focus and all I could see were the beautiful, sparkling lights on our tree.
So I think it is with people, too. It’s easy to show your ugly cord, but if you let the Light of Christ shine from within you—that’s what others will naturally focus on. This year, as you’re rushing from store to store, or baking batch after batch of cookies, or hurrying from house to house for Christmas parties, try to remember the best way to show your Christmas spirit is to be the Light of Christ.
