Subscription/Prescription

Subscription/Prescription

I have been answering phones for the magazine St. Anthony Messenger for 3 years.  In customer service we are met daily with many different types of customers and could tell you all kinds of stories. I suppose one of my favorite stories would be when customers call to request a “prescription” for St. Anthony Messenger. Get it–subscription–prescription. Come on, you know you want to smile. I know I smile every time a customer requests to renew their “prescription”.

Recently a lady called to renew her prescription and when she realized what she said she kind of giggled. I giggled too because I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable with her mispronunciation.

The lady went on to say that she had subscribed to the magazine for many years and that she thought of  St. Anthony Messenger magazine as a prescription for her faith. She realized that her subscription price of $32.00 supported the Franciscans but, most importantly, the magazine served as a connection between her and the community of her faith. After I hung up with my dear customer I thought about what she said and had to share the story with my co-workers.

What a delightful idea, a magazine subscription to St. Anthony Messenger is a prescription for your Catholic faith!

Readers of this blog, please excuse me as I use this opportunity to promote the magazine. If you, too, want a prescription for your Catholic faith please call me at 1-800-488-0488 x181. I will be happy to begin a subscription to  St. Anthony Messenger for you.
