Haiti, a Year Later

Haiti, a Year Later

Wednesday, January 12, marks the first anniversary of the horrific earthquake in Haiti. While we hear more in the news about the tragedy in Tucson, let’s not forget that Haitians have a very long way to go—thousands whose homes were destroyed still are living in tents a year later. I interviewed Catholic Relief Services director Ken Hackett recently for this week’s American Catholic Radio program. Follow the link to listen to this week’s program—the 5-minute interview is in the “Exploring Our Faith” weekly segment. He talks about how our Church is compelled to serve the Haiti’s long-term needs. (I recommend, too, our gripping firsthand story of Dr. Ed Gamboa’s work in the immediate relief last year in the St. Anthony Messenger archives on this site.)
