SAMP Authors Sign Books

Not only are Father Pat McCloskey, O.F.M., and Kathleen Carroll dedicated and valued members of the St. Anthony Messenger Press team, they are also newly published St. Anthony Messenger Press (SAMP) book authors!

On December 6 at Joseph-Beth Booksellers (in Cincinnati, Ohio, where St. Anthony Messenger Press is headquartered), Katie and Father Pat talked about their new books, answered questions from the audience, and signed books for fans.

Father Pat’s Ask A Franciscan: Answers to Catholic Questions, grew from the many questions he’s received over the years in his aptly named “Ask a Franciscan” column in St. Anthony Messenger magazine, of which he is editor-in-chief.

When talking about the concept of his book, Father Pat gave attendees some very interesting food for thought: “Some people fear that asking questions indicates lack of faith. On the contrary, I think sincere questions are the building blocks of faith.” His book is based on the fact that faith needs to grow, and “asking questions is one way that happens.”

Katie pointed out that, A Franciscan Christmas, is perfect for helping people refocus their minds and hearts on the true meaning of Christmas amidst chaotic holiday preparations. “Too often our Christmas decorations, the season itself, or even our faith become just one more thing to check off our to-do list. St. Francis recreated the Nativity scene to remind us that the Incarnation wasn’t just a one-time historical fact. It is an ongoing reality that can transform our lives if we just slow down long enough to think about it.” All proceeds from the book benefit the ministry of the Franciscans of St. John the Baptist Province.
